Say hello to the gang. Most of these dolls were created for Halloween... perhaps my favorite holiday of the year! I love to get behind a good mask!
These dolls all start as a muslin body that is then painted with acrylics. Layers of paint are sanded, leaving exposed skin feeling like old leather. Then the fun begins! I dress them up with bits and pieces of found things.
Seanna the Mermaid wears a shell hat I picked up on the beach in the Outer Banks. Zothar's cape is made from an old table runner. Morgana's skirt is a doily dipped in paint! My Fortune Teller's crystal ball is the bottom of a rubber stamp coupled with a Christmas ornament. Raven's dress is from an old nightgown... and doesn't she just look a bit like Joan Coliins? Freaky!
Kinda ruins the magic... or maybe starts it?
My neighbor is an artist who ALWAYS creates from found things. Her studio has an abundance of stuff to create with - some found, some donated from friends. Deb lets me go "shopping" in her studio when I need that special something to finish a doll! It's heaaven sent.

She's "out there" and I love her work! Plus I'm the her web designer!
